VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE RECOVERY CHIEF CHRISTINE NIXON ON
DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND RECOVERY:
CANBERRA 19 OCTOBER
Ms Christine Nixon APM, Chair, Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery
Authority, will deliver the Families Australia National Oration on Monday 19 October
2009 at the Mural Hall, Parliament House, Canberra (commencing at 6.30pm).
Media are welcome to attend and cover the address.
Ms Nixons address is entitled: Responding to disasters: how can we better
assist families and communities?
Drawing on her many years of eminent community and public service in the police
force, in community organisations and, currently, with the Victorian Bushfire
Reconstruction and Recovery Authority, Ms Nixon will talk about issues facing
communities and families, particularly when they face disasters and other
emergencies.
How can communities and families function best under stressful conditions?
What should governments, services and the public do to support
communities and families better?
How should governments and services go about delivering interventions
more effectively in community and family life?
Families Australia is a peak, independent, not-for-profit organisation which promotes
the interests of families at the national level. This will be the second Families
Australia Oration; the first was delivered by the Governor-General in October 2008.
Refreshments will be served from 6pm in the Mural Hall. The Oration will commence
promptly at 6.30pm.
