SIXTY THOUSAND REASONS TO SAY THANKS TO VOLUNTEERS
CFA CEO Mick Bourke has paid tribute to the organisations 60,000 volunteer members
during National Volunteer Week.
Mr Bourke said CFA members provided an invaluable contribution to their communities
and National Volunteer Week (10 16 May) was a wonderful opportunity to
acknowledge their tireless efforts.
The value that CFA volunteers bring to Victoria is not limited to bushfire response, he
said. Our brigades also respond to tens of thousands of other incidents every year
including structure fires, car accidents, rescues and hazmat incidents.
Mr Bourke said the states 1223 CFA brigades reflected Victorias cultural diversity, with
women now comprising almost 20 per cent of total membership.
CFA volunteers come from all walks of life and backgrounds but they are all united by
their desire to help their communities, he said. I am proud of the contribution our
members make across the state, and Id like to thank them all for the dedication they
show each and every day.
National Volunteer Week is the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in
Australia and provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our
communities and to say thank you to the more than 5 million Australians who volunteer
and contribute more than 700 million hours of community service.
