Firefighter dies at grass fire on NSW North Coast

A retained (on call) firefighter from the NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) collapsed and died at
a grass fire at Fingal Bay on the NSW North Coast this evening.
NSWFB Commissioner Greg Mullins said that the firefighter collapsed shortly after the
grass fire had been extinguished. Colleagues immediately went to his aid, administered
CPR and he was transported to hospital.
The Police have advised that the name of the firefighter will not be released until all family
members have been informed.
Commissioner Mullins expressed his deep sadness at the death.
“Firefighters are men and women who are dedicated to saving life and property. It hits all
of us hard when one of our own dies or is injured.
“I extend my deepest sympathy, personally and on behalf of the NSW Fire Brigades to his
family, friends and colleagues.”
The Minister for Emergency Services, Steve Whan, paid tribute to the firefighter.
“He was an experienced firefighter who had attended countless fires, accidents and
emergencies, and was known and admired in the local community.
“Firefighters are very special people and it is tragic to lose someone so dedicated to
helping others,” said Minister Whan.
