Political Turmoil in Bangladesh

Kaiser Ahmed: A demonstration was staged by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party Australia
Branch under the leadership of Convener Mr. Delwar Hossain in front of the Sydney Consulate
Office of the Bangladesh High Commission on Sunday the 19 April 2009.
The Convener of BNP Australia in his address said that the current government of
Bangladesh is violating all the rules and norms of the human rights by promoting the torture and
killing of opposite opinion. He protested the recent illegal decision of the government to cancel
the lease of residence of opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia. He said that the decision on the
sensitive issue would trigger unrest and conflicts in the political arena of Bangladesh.
The Secretary General of Central Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Mr. Khandaker
Delwar Hossain also delivered a telephonic address to the protest meeting. He said that BNP
want to maintain stability in the country and asked the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her
government to leave the wrong way of threatening the opposition. To hide the complete failure
of government they are disturbing the opposition.
He urge the government to Scrap the illegal decision of the cabinet and curb their desire to
evict Khaleda Zia from the house she has been living in for the past 28 years on lease in
perpetuity. Begum Khaleda Zia has been living in this house for past 28 years. If the
government tries to evict her on an illegal decision, we will face it politically and the government
will have to take the responsibility for the consequences.
The meeting was also addressed by the local leaders which includes BNP Australia Senior
leader Sayeda Khanam Angur, Chatradal Australia President Moslehuddin Arif, Jubodal Central
Committee Member Ashraful Alam Roni, Chatradal Kafrul unit Vice President Sarder M. Khaled,
JASAS Australia President Bellal Hossain Dhali, Zia Parishad Australia President Kudratullah
Liton and Jubodal Australia Convener Hafizul Islam Tareq.
At the end of the meeting a five members representative from the meeting met with the
Consular Mr. Nazrul Islam at the consulate and hand over a memorandum addressed to the
President of Bangladesh.
