Victoria Police to brief Privacy Commissioner on protestors' files
Prior to recent media reports, the Privacy Commissioner, Helen Versey, was not aware
that Victoria Police had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding that would allow
for protestors personal information to be provided to a private company by Victoria
Police.
Today the Privacy Commissioner has had discussions with the Commissioner for Law
Enforcement Data Security and the Office of Police Integrity.
Victoria Police have agreed to provide a briefing to all three agencies and the briefing is
expected to take place sometime this week.
The Privacy Commissioner will invite the Equal Opportunity and Human Rights
Commission to the briefing. All four regulators have a role in addressing this matter.
