Football memorabilia conceals cocaine
A 19-year-old Canley Vale man will appear in Parramatta Local Court this morning
charged with importing up to two kilograms of cocaine in parcels of football
memorabilia.
Investigations began on 30 April when Customs officers at the Sydney International
Mail Centre intercepted five parcels from Argentina.
Customs officers located a package of white powder inside one of the parcels
containing a gift box of football memorabilia.
The package was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
Following an investigation, the AFP executed search warrants on a Canley Vale
residence yesterday and charged a 19-year-old man with attempting to possess a
marketable quantity of a border controlled drug contrary to section 307.5 of the
Criminal Code Act 1995.
The maximum penalty for this offence is 25 years imprisonment and/or a $550,000 fine.
