Thousands of Skilled Brits Get Ready To Move Down Under
WELLINGTON, Oct. 6 /NZPA-AsiaNet/ --
Every year, thousands of skilled Brits choose to leave the UK in search of a better lifestyle. This year will be no different,
as predicted by the number of pre-sale tickets to the Opportunities expos to be held in London and Manchester this
October.
Approximately 14,358 Brits migrated permanently to Australia between July and December 2009 according to Australian
Immigration. In New Zealand, in the 3 months to December 2009, 4,299 Brits sought long term residence, according to
Statistics New Zealand.
"The increasing number of baby-boomers entering the age of retirement means that Australia and New Zealand is and
will continue to face human resource shortages" says Hayley Roberts, CEO of Working In Ltd.
In New Zealand, the global economic recovery is proving positive, with predictions by the March 2010 NZIER
Consensus forecast that the economy will grow by 2.8% in the year to March 2011.
In addition, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently released a report highlighting Australia as one of the leaders
of the global economic recovery, post-recession.
With growing economies, the demand for skilled workers grows. Reports are numerous on the need for more engineers,
teachers, health practitioners, teachers, builders, plumbers and electricians. Australian and New Zealand employers are
eager to talk to skilled British workers that are looking to change their lives by moving downunder.
Australian and New Zealand employers are flying to the UK to attend the Opportunities expos and meet with British
skilled migrants wanting to move to those countries. Additionally, Working In Visa's unique Journey to Work experts will
also be there, with hundreds of current vacancies from other Australian and New Zealand employers.
Over one million British expats live in Australia, while New Zealand has over 200,000. Lifestyle is the most common
reason given by Brits who choose to move abroad.
"In the UK, you have little time to expand your learning, but here people live a lot better. They work and they have time
to go home and just forget about work," comments Carl, whose wife, Donna-Marie accepted a nursing position in Australia
earlier this year after visiting the expo.
The October Opportunities expos, Working In's flagship events, will hit London (9-10 October) and Manchester (16-17
October) with the goal of helping Brits start their new life in Australia or New Zealand.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Each entry costs £15.00 and all online ticket holders go in the draw to
have their visa processed for free (Australia and New Zealand only), a prize worth over £3500.
