VETS MINISTER TO FOLLOW DEATH MARCH ROUTE
This Sunday the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Alan Griffin, will walk part of the Sandakan death
marches track, where more than 2000 Australian and British prisoners of war (POWs) perished
at the end of the Second World War.
He will pay tribute to the POWs by laying a wreath at the Ranau memorial on Sunday morning
and at the Sandakan Memorial Park on Monday 15 December.
Mr Griffin is in the region for the dedication of the Brunei-Australia Memorial on Saturday 13
December at Muara Beach, Brunei Darussalam. He earlier visited the graves of the Sandakan
POWs from at the Labuan War Cemetery, Malaysia.
