VETERANS COMMEMORATE 40th ANNIVERSARY OF
BATTLE OF BINH BA
The Minister for Veterans Affairs, Alan Griffin, will join Vietnam veterans at a commemorative
service in Canberra TOMORROW to mark the 40th anniversary of one of Australias most
significant victories of the Vietnam War.
The Battle of Binh Ba, 6-8 June 1969, involved some 330 Australian servicemen fighting a
combined force of Viet Cong guerrillas and North Vietnamese Army troops. One Australian was
killed.
Mr Griffin said helicopter, artillery and engineer support was used in a powerful and disciplined
combined arms attack to overcome fierce opposition.
The Australian Government has committed $50,000 to fund activities marking the 40th
anniversary of the Battle of Binh Ba.
