A hot topic for discussion in Darwin in May

Australia’s leading commentator on demographic-based business trends, Bernard Salt will explore

Australia’s demographic future and its affect on local government at the 2009 LGMA National

Congress & Business Expo in Darwin on 24-27 May.

Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) Chief Executive, John Ravlic says Mr Salt’s

presence at the congress will help us define and better understand some of the demographic

changes in the community.

“Bernard will be talking about the emerging demographic of our communities, the ageing of our

population, and demands on local government services we can expect.

“Over the next 10-15 years our population is going to age significantly, and this will place significant

pressures on local government services” Mr. Ravlic said.

Mr Salt heads a group of consultants within KPMG who provide demographic-based advice to

business.  He is a regular contributor to major Australian newspapers, a best-selling author and has

established an international reputation as a trend forecaster for the property and financial service

industries.

Mr Salt recently participated in the Melbourne L’Oreal Fashion Festival as a keynote speaker at the

annual marketing breakfast, during which he discussed how the current economic crisis would affect

business and consumer confidence in the retail fashion industry.

The 2009 LGMA National Congress & Business Expo is regarded as Australia’s leading forum for

local government professionals.  It will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre from 24-27 May.

The congress features a host of prominent government, business and philanthropic presenters

including former federal MP and leader of the Australia Democrats, Natasha Stott Despoja,

Australian expert in workforce trends and generational change, Peter Sheahan; former Northern

Natio
