Sticking to the Millennium Development Goals

Federal Member for Fraser, Bob McMullan, will be hosting a morning tea to raise awareness in the Canberra community of the Millennium Development Goals on Friday 12 June 2009.

With the global economic recession forcing more people in developing countries into poverty, Australia is even more determined to `stick' to its commitment to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In a visual display of support for the MDGs, AusAID (the Australian Agency for International Development) is sticking a set of eight brightly coloured MDG icons to the exterior of its building on London Circuit.

These icons represent the set of goals agreed upon by nations to reduce global poverty and advance human development in a range of areas by 2015. We have now reached a critical stage with the global economic recession threatening progress towards MDG targets.

Media are welcome to attend the morning tea and address by Bob McMullan.

Mr McMullan will be available for photographs and overlay footage is available upon request.

When: Friday 12 June 2009

Time: 10.30 am
