RETIREMENT OF BOB MCMULLAN

I congratulate Bob McMullan on his substantial contribution to the Parliament, the Australian Labor Party, and to public life.

I have known Bob since our time in the Western Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) in the 1970s.

As State Secretary of the Western Australian Branch, I was one of Bob's successors and worked with him in this capacity when he was National Secretary of the ALP.

As a successful Minister for Trade in the Keating Government and during his time as Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance in the current Government, Bob has contributed significantly as a member of the Executive in two areas of foreign policy priority.

I look forward to continuing to work with Bob for the remainder of this Parliamentary term.

I have always greatly valued his friendship and professionalism, including in recent years as the Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance.

I wish Bob and Robin the very best in the future.
