QUICK CLAIMS PROCESSING FOR VETERANS

AFTER BRISBANE STORMS

The insurance claims of hundreds of Defence Service Homes Insurance (DSHI) veterans who

have had their homes damaged by last week’s storms will be processed quickly, the Minister for

Veterans’ Affairs, Alan Griffin, said today.

“We’ve already had more than 650 claims, and initial inspections are progressing quickly,” Mr

Griffin said.

“I encourage any Defence Service Homes Insurance policy holders who have not yet submitted

claims to lodge one as soon as they can, and DSHI will have them processed as quickly as

possible.”

To lodge a claim, or for policy information contact DSHI on 1300 552 662, 24 hours a day,

seven days a week.

“The storm damage has been quite widespread, but thankfully, for most policyholders, damage

to homes has been minimal. Most claims have been for damage from falling trees and

branches, the high winds damaging roofs, smashing windows and also water damage to homes

and belongings,” Mr Griffin said.

“There has been one claim for extensive damage which has made the home uninhabitable.

Cover for temporary accommodation costs are provided under DSHI building insurance

policies.”

DSHI home buildings insurance includes coverage for loss or damage caused by storm activity.

The DSHI home contents policy also includes coverage for storm activity.

“Obviously storms like this are quite disruptive, so our aim is for DSHI to work through the

claims process quickly so repairs can be made and policy holders’ homes can return to normal

as soon as possible,” Mr Griffin said.

Policyholders should call DSHI if they are unsure about whether their claim should be lodged

under their buildings or contents insurance policy.
