Noting veteran counselling services in your reporting

Recent media reporting on mental health issues affecting Australian Defence Force

personnel and veterans helps to encourage individuals and their families to seek

assistance, however many reports do not provide details of where those affected can

get help. Early identification and treatment of mental health conditions is vitally

important.

When writing or broadcasting stories on mental health issues affecting veterans or

defence personnel, please mention our free and confidential counselling service  VVCS-

Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service 1800 011 046.  It is a free local

call and out of office hours will connect to the VVCS after hours service Veterans’ Line.

Your assistance will ensure those who need help can contact us without delay.

By including this phone number in your reporting you will help veterans and Australian

Defence Force personnel get the help they deserve.
