ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEW CHIEF SCIENTIST


Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science
and Research, will hold a media conference to announce
Australia's new, full-time, Chief Scientist.

The appointment concludes a six month international
executive search for an appropriate candidate to take over the
position from Dr Jim Peacock.

The Chief Scientist plays a vital role in providing advice to
Government on science topics of national interest, developing
coordination between science organisations and industry
groups and promoting science discussion at a community
level.
