LETTER TO THE EDITOR ANZAC DAY

Dear Editor,

Anzac Day is an important day to honour and remember the men and women who have served
in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and those who continue to serve in the Australian
Defence Force.

Dawn Services and marches will be held on Saturday 25 April across the country to pay tribute
to Australian servicemen and women.

This year marks ten years since Australia led the United Nations force INTERFET in East
Timor.  Australias involvement in the operation is featured in the Australian Governments
Anzac Day poster distributed across the country to schools and community organisations.

Servicemen and women from the Second World War, Korean War and Vietnam War to recent
conflicts including East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan will march in Anzac Day ceremonies
across the country.

To find out more about community activities for Anzac Day contact your local RSL Branch or
visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website www.dva.gov.au.  The DVA website also
contains advice on wearing medals and useful resources to help coordinate an Anzac Day
ceremony.

I encourage all Australians to take the time to attend an Anzac Day service to especially
remember the more than 102,000 who have given their lives in service to Australia.

Alan Griffin
Minister for Veterans Affairs
