Pilbara Australian Technical College to join WA State

education system

Parliamentary Secretary for Western and Northern Australia, Gary Gray, today

welcomed the agreement to integrate the Australian Technical College (ATC) – Pilbara,

into the Western Australian State education and training system.

The Western Australian Government will formally take responsibility for the operation of

the Pilbara ATC on 1 January 2010.

The Australian Government has worked closely with the Western Australian

Government and the Board of the Australian Technical College in ensuring the

continued delivery of quality training at the Pilbara campuses.

Mr Gray said the agreement provided certainty for the region’s vocational students into

the future, and ensured that the $12million investment of the Australian Government

was used to contribute to education and training in the Pilbara.

The College currently provides training to a number of students, including many

Indigenous students, in fields such as commercial cookery, metal and engineering,

construction, automotive and electro technology.

“Local trainees will continue to have access to skills training which will provide long-term

benefits for local employers, and the community as a whole,” Mr Gray said.

“The Australian Government will continue to focus on providing a skilled workforce for

the future and is currently delivering a $2.5 billion Trade Training Centres in Schools

program that will benefit all Australian secondary schools.”
