–– Expert comment on deficit budgets ––

Access Economics has predicted the Federal Government's next budget will run a

deficit of about $1 billion.

In the current economic climate, what are the risks of running a budget deficit?

What does history and research show about the short- and long-term impact of

budget deficits on an economy?

Should the Government be aiming to avoid getting into deficit at all cost?

RMIT University’s Professor Sinclair Davidson is an expert on public sector

economics.

He is the Professor of Institutional Economics in RMIT’s School of Economics,

Finance and Marketing and has published widely on public economics, advanced

corporate finance, the behaviour of financial markets and international finance.

Professor Davidson is available for comment on issues related to budget deficits

and their potential impact on Australia’s economy.

For interviews: RMIT University’s Professor Sinclair Davidson, (03) 9925 5869

or 0430 235 681.

For general media enquiries: RMIT University Media and Communications,

Gosia Kaszubska, (03) 9925 3176 or 0417 510 735.
