DIRECTOR-GENERAL AusAID

After ten years of distinguished service as the Director-General of AusAID, Bruce Davis AM will leave

the position on Friday, 3 July 2009.

Mr Davis will take up a diplomatic assignment later this year, following a period of leave.

As Director-General of AusAID, Mr Davis has led major changes to AusAID and to the delivery of

Australia’s overseas aid.

His achievements include the presentation and implementation of the White Paper on Australia’s aid

program in 2006 and the implementation of the aid program's focus on the Millennium Development

Goals.

He has also worked very effectively to progress the Government’s commitment to increase Australia’s

Official Development Assistance to 0.5 per cent of Gross National Income by 2015-16.

Mr Davis has been at the forefront of efforts to implement a whole of government approach to aid

policy and delivery, demonstrated in Canberra by the creation of the Office of Development

Effectiveness, and overseas through multi-agency initiatives such as the Regional Assistance Mission to

Solomon Islands and the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and Development.

In accordance with the Public Service Act, the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

will announce an Acting Director-General of AusAID today.

The position of Director-General of AusAID will be advertised and filled in accordance with the

provisions of the Public Service Act in due course.
