DARWIN COMMEMORATES 67th ANNIVERSARY OF
BOMBING
The Minister for Veterans Affairs, Alan Griffin, and Damian Hale, the Member for Solomon, will
TOMORROW attend a commemorative service in Darwin to mark the 67th anniversary of the
bombing of Darwin.
Few Australians can fully appreciate the devastating attacks that began in Darwin on
19 February 1942.
More than 250 Australians were killed and hundreds more injured in the initial attacks on
Darwin. Twenty military aircraft were destroyed, eight ships sunk and many more buildings
destroyed, leaving Darwin in ruins.
Tomorrow, Australians are asked to reflect on the devastating attacks on Darwin and other
towns in Northern Australia during the Second World War and pay tribute to the service and
sacrifice of those who died serving our nation.
