Boost for Western Australian volunteer organisations ahead

of International Volunteer day

More than 570 organisations across Western Australia will benefit from over

$1.8 million in Australian Government funding for volunteer grants.

Australia wide the Government is giving over $21 million in volunteer grants to more

than 6,700 community and volunteer organisations.

Across Western Australia the Volunteer Grants Program 2009 will support over

34,300 volunteers and will cover the cost of new equipment and fuel.

Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organisations to help

them purchase items such as computers, printers, cameras, fridges, marquees and

shade sails.

This is a great boost to volunteers and volunteer organisations across Western

Australia ahead of International Volunteer Day on 5 December.

Every day volunteers are out in their local communities working tirelessly to help the

elderly, the sick and those who have hit hard times.

The Australian Government values the hard work of the over 540,000 Western

Australian volunteers, who give their valuable time, expertise and understanding to

the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.

Organisations to receive funding include St. Vincent de Paul, the Scouts Association

in WA, fire and emergency services in WA and South Perth Outreach.

More than 70 branches of St Vincent de Paul in WA will receive $235,539 from the

Volunteer Grants Program to purchase equipment and fuel to support over 1,000

volunteers.

Fire and emergency services in WA will receive more than $47,000 to assist 529

volunteer fire-fighters across 15 branches to prepare and fight fires this season and

into the future.
