Boost for Victorian volunteer organisations ahead of
International Volunteer Day
More than 1,800 organisations across Victoria will benefit from nearly $5.7 million in
Australian Government funding for volunteer grants.
Across Australia the Government is providing $21 million in volunteer grants to more
than 6,700 community and volunteer organisations.
In Victoria the Volunteer Grants Program 2009 will support at least 78,400 volunteers
and will cover the cost of new equipment and fuel.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 will be provided to non-profit organisations to
help them purchase items such as computers, printers, cameras, fridges, marquees
and shade sails.
This is a great boost to volunteers and volunteer organisations across Victoria ahead
of International Volunteer Day on 5 December.
Every day volunteers are out in their local communities working tirelessly to help the
elderly, the sick and those who have hit hard times.
The Australian Government values the hard work of the 1.2 million Victorian
volunteers, who give their valuable time, expertise and understanding to the most
vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
Victorian organisations to receive funding include the Scouts Association in Victoria,
St Johns Ambulance Victoria, fire services in Victoria and St. Vincent de Paul.
More than 200 branches of the Scouts Association in Victoria will receive $741,616
from the Volunteer Grants Program to purchase equipment and fuel to support
11,000 volunteers.
Fire services in Victoria will receive $301,521 to assist nearly 5,000 volunteer fire-
fighters across 99 branches to prepare and fight fires this season and into the future.
