Boost for South Australian volunteer organisations ahead of
International Volunteer Day
Three hundred and eighty organisations across South Australia will benefit from more
than $1.2 million in Australian Government funding for volunteer grants.
Across Australia the Government is providing over $21 million in volunteer grants to
more than 6,700 community and volunteer organisations.
In South Australia the Volunteer Grants Program 2009 will support over 22,600
volunteers and cover the cost of equipment and fuel.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organisations to help
them purchase items such as computers, printers, cameras, fridges, marquees and
shade sails.
This is a great boost to volunteers and volunteer organisations across South
Australia ahead of International Volunteer Day on 5 December.
Every day volunteers are out in their local communities working tirelessly to help the
elderly, the sick and those who have hit hard times.
The Australian Government values the hard work of the more than 360,000 South
Australian volunteers, who give their valuable time, expertise and understanding to
the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
South Australian organisations to receive funding include the Scouts Association in
South Australia, the South Australian Country Fire Service and St. Vincent de Paul.
Nearly 20 branches of the Scouts Association in South Australia will receive $68,536
from the Volunteer Grants Program to purchase equipment and fuel to support 300
volunteers.
The South Australian Country Fire Service will receive more than $58,700 to assist
2,872 volunteer fire-fighters across 17 branches to prepare and fight fires this season
and into the future.
