Boost for Queensland volunteer organisations ahead of
International Volunteer Day
Nearly 1,400 organisations across Queensland will benefit from more than $4.3
million in Australian Government funding for volunteer grants.
Across Australia the Government is providing over $21 million in volunteer grants to
more than 6,700 community and volunteer organisations.
In Queensland the Volunteer Grants Program 2009 will support over 60,300
volunteers and cover the costs of equipment and fuel.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organisations to help
them purchase items such as computers, printers, cameras, fridges, marquees and
shade sails.
This is a great boost to volunteers and volunteer organisations across Queensland
ahead of International Volunteer Day on 5 December.
Every day volunteers are out in their local communities working tirelessly to help the
elderly, the sick and those who have hit hard times.
Queensland along with ACT has the highest rate of volunteerism in the country at
around 38 per cent volunteering some of their time.
The Australian Government values the hard work of the over 1.1 million Queensland
volunteers, who give their valuable time, expertise and understanding to the most
vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
Queensland organisations to receive funding include the Scouts Association in
Queensland and the Queensland fire services.
More than 50 branches of the Scout Association Queensland will receive $192,027
from the Volunteer Grants Program to purchase equipment and fuel to support 1,300
volunteers.
The Queensland fire services will receive more than $82,000 to assist 646 volunteer
fire fighters across 24 branches to prepare and fight fires.
