Boost for NSW volunteer organisations ahead of
International Volunteer Day
More than 2,230 organisations across NSW will benefit from more than $7 million in
Australian Government funding for volunteer grants.
Across Australia the Government is providing over $21 million in volunteer grants to
more than 6,700 community and volunteer organisations.
In NSW the Volunteer Grants Program 2009 will support at least 156,000 volunteers
and will cover the cost of new equipment and fuel.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 will be provided to non-profit organisations to
help them purchase items such as computers, printers, cameras, fridges, marquees
and shade sails.
This is a great boost to volunteers and volunteer organisations across NSW ahead of
International Volunteer Day on 5 December.
Every day volunteers are out in their local communities working tirelessly to help the
elderly, the sick and those who have hit hard times.
The Australian Government values the hard work of the 1.6 million volunteers across
NSW, who give their valuable time, expertise and understanding to the most
vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
NSW organisations to receive funding include Scouts NSW, Girl Guides NSW and
the Country Womens Association.
Scouts NSW will receive over $340,000 across 95 branches from the Volunteers
Grants Program to purchase equipment and fuel to support 3,490 volunteers.
The Girl Guides Association of NSW will receive over $127,000 to help 928
volunteers with equipment and fuel costs.
The Country Womens Association in NSW will receive over $57,000 across 23
branches to support nearly 600 volunteers.
