AUSTRALIAN PEACEKEEPERS COMMEMORATED IN SA
The Minister for Veterans Affairs, Alan Griffin, will be in Port Noarlunga TOMORROW to mark
Australian Peacekeepers Day by unveiling plaques to commemorate Australian Defence Force
personnel who have served on international peacekeeping missions since 1947.
Mr Griffin said Australia has made and continues to make a significant contribution to peace
operations across the globe and the plaques pay tribute to the efforts of all those involved.
More than 30,000 members of the Australian Defence Force, police forces, and Australian
Government agencies including the Department of Veterans Affairs have been involved in more
than 50 United Nations and multinational peace operations since September 1947, Mr Griffin
said.
The Minister will be available for interview and photos at the completion of the ceremony.
