Academic slams flawed Treasury advice on asset sell-off:
Report to be released in Brisbane tomorrow
A union-commissioned report has slammed the advice provided by Treasury to justify the State
Governments asset sell-off and claims the decision to sell public assets was bad and
unnecessary.
The QCU commissioned Professor Bob Walker and Betty Con Walker to analyse the Bligh
Governments reasons for its privatisation proposals with the final report Queensland Asset Sell
Offs, Budget Black Holes, Borrowings and Credit Ratings to be released by Professor Walker in
Brisbane tomorrow.
(Professor Walker is Professor of Accounting at Sydney University and his specialist interests
include public sector finances, corporate regulation and corporate governance. Betty Con Walker
is an economist with experience in both the public and private sectors.)
Professor Walker will release his report and give a briefing to representatives of unions
affected by the privatisation proposal as follows:
