65th anniversary of the bombing of Onslow
commemorated with dedication of new war memorial
The Minister for Veterans Affairs, Alan Griffin, will be in Onslow, Western Australia, on Monday,
15 September to mark the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Onslow by officially dedicating a
war memorial commemorating Australias involvement in the Second World War.
Mr Griffin said on 15 September 1943 enemy planes dropped 16 bombs on the Onslow airstrip.
Onslow was the southern-most town in Australia bombed by enemy aircraft.
Like places all around Australia, the people of Onslow experienced the war directly through
these bombings, while the young men from the district were serving their country in the armed
forces.
The Minister will be available for interview and photos following the ceremony.
