4000 STUDENTS ENTER AUSTRALIAN HISTORY COMPETITION
Minister for Veterans Affairs Alan Griffin will present awards for the 2008 National History
Challenge at Parliament House TOMORROW.
Mr Griffin said more that 4000 students from 450 schools across Australia entered the
competition and the standard of entries this year was very high.
The study of history is as important as studying maths, english or science and this competition
provides young Australians with an invaluable opportunity to learn about our nations past, Mr
Griffin said.
Mr Griffin will present several awards including the award for the In War and Peace category
sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Young Historian of the Year award
on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace
Relations, Julia Gillard.
Media are invited to meet prize winning students from each state and territory after the awards
presentation.
