Smoke Alarm Alerts Man in Lidcombe House Fire
17 May 2008
Firefighters are reminding people of the importance of having working smoke
alarms installed in the home after a man narrowly escaped a residential fire
in Lidcombe this morning.
At approximately 3:15am the NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) responded
to a house fire on Boorea Street after receiving a Triple Zero (000) call.
Firefighters from Lidcombe Fire Station arrived at the premises to discover the
front of the house was well alight and forced entry through the front door of
the house to extinguish a blaze that started in the front bedroom.
The man living in the house was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and
safely escaped from the house before fire crews arrived. He has since been
transported to a nearby hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters say a working smoke alarm installed in the house provided
the early warning the man needed to make a safe escape.
