ANSALDO STS WINS COMMUNICATION CONTRACT FROM WA POLICE

Ansaldo STS has won a $2.5m data communications contract from the Western Australia

Police. The contract is central to the police force’s plans to extend the coverage area of its

secure digital metropolitan radio network from the current 9,000 square kilometres to

20,000 square kilometres.

Ansaldo STS developed and delivered the first stage of the data radio network to the

Western Australia Police in 2006. The Ansaldo STS developed network is a fully

integrated solution with embedded GPS.

It enables highly reliable, secure end-to-end data messaging, enquiries and dispatch

information to be exchanged between mobile police vehicles and the central Police

Communications Centre.

Its ability to automatically locate police vehicles enables Communications Centre staff to

identify and dispatch the closest and most suitably equipped vehicle to attend a particular

incident, thus improving officer safety and police response times.

Under the new contract Ansaldo STS will extend the coverage area of the secure data

radio to 20,000 square kilometres, extending north of Perth to Lancelin, east to Northam

and south to Dunsborough.

Ansaldo STS CEO and Managing Director Lyle Jackson said that Ansaldo STS was

pleased to again be working with the Western Australia Police.

“Ansaldo STS and the Western Australia Police have a long standing and established

working relationship and are equally committed to ensuring the success of this latest

project,” Mr Jackson said.
