Visit to Solomon Islands shows employers the benefits of Reserve
service
Twenty-one employers of Australian Defence Force (ADF) Reservists will travel to the
Solomon Islands today as part of Exercise Boss Lift a Defence program designed to
encourage employer support for the Reserves.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney announced that the
employers will visit soldiers from the Melbourne-based 4th Brigade who are currently on a
four month deployment to the Solomon Islands.
While in Honiara and surrounds, the employers will have the opportunity to see their
Reservists deployed on Operation Anode, the ADFs contribution to the Australian-led
Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands.
Defences Cadet, Reserve and Employer Support Division (CRESD), which is responsible for
employer support for Australia's Reservists, has ensured the Boss Lift program visit will
highlight the important contribution made by Reservists in the ADF and will allow employers
to experience directly the essential roles played by their employees.
Senator Feeney said the employers will gain a valuable insight into the benefits their
employees can bring back to the civilian workplace by being able to observe the skills that
Reserve service has developed.
Exercise Boss Lift highlights the skills Reservists gain from being in the ADF and how
those skills can benefit their civilian employers.
