Vice Regal Visit to Army Range
An Army Reserve live fire exercise being conducted at the Buckland range north of Hobart
this weekend will have a
distinguished
visitor attending
in the form of the Governor of
Tasmania.
His Excellency, the Honourable Peter Underwood AC, Governor of Tasmania, has been the
Honorary Colonel of the 12th/40th Battalion, the Royal Tasmania Regiment for the past two
years.
His Excellency often attends the more formal events such as the Regimental Dining In
Nights, said the Commanding Officer of the 12th/40th Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Colin
Riley.
Therefore it is pleasing that he has taken the time out of a busy schedule to travel to
Buckland to view the activities being conducted on our field weekend.
Lieutenant Colonel Riley said he was hoping that if the opportunity arose, His Excellency will
be able to undertake a shoot with the F88 Steyr the standard weapon used in the
Australian Defence Force.
This isnt His Excellencys first time in the field with the Battalion. Last year he travelled to
South Australia to our Combined Arms Training Activity to observe training in the field,
including the use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and night live fire demonstration.
The range weekend will also see several employers of Reservists and potential recruits
visiting other activities around the training area.
Additionally, a number of students are attending as part of the Battalions work experience
program which is something new that is being offered for students who wish to take a closer
look at a possible part-time or full-time Army career.
