Supportive employers recognised in NSW
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, Dr Mike Kelly, has congratulated
30 New South Wales employers on receiving awards for the excellent support they
offer to Defence Reservists.
The metropolitan Sydney area employers were recognised with Defence Reserves
Support Council Employer Support Awards at the Sydney Cricket Ground last night
(Wednesday, 5 May).
“Our Reserve Forces significantly enhance Defence capability, particularly in their
support of current operations here and on deployments overseas,” said Dr Kelly.
“Working closely with employers, building mutual understanding and providing
financial and other support is critical. These awards clearly demonstrate the value
Defence places on the importance of their relationship with employers.”
In an unusual first, all recipients were presented a special Defence Reserves Support
cricket stump, personally signed by former Australian Cricket Captain Steve Waugh.
Chair of the Defence Reserves Support Council Jack Smorgon, Head Cadet,
Reserve and Employer Support Division Major General Greg Melick, DRSC New
South Wales Committee Chair Rodney Cavalier and other distinguished guests
joined the award winners at the Members Pavilion of the Sydney Cricket Ground.
