Statement on behalf of the family of Leading Seaman Andrew Wakely


Leading Seaman Andrew Wakely, a member of the ships company of HMAS

Warramunga, Royal Australian Navy is missing presumed drowned whilst swimming

in Tonga.


The following statement is released on behalf of his family.  


Andrew was a loving and generous person, who was admired and respected by those

around him. 


Andrew proudly served ten years in the Australian Navy including two tours of the

Gulf. 


We take comfort in knowing that his final hours were spent with some of his best

friends. 


Andrew loved life, had a great sense of humour and will be dearly missed. 


We ask that the media respect our privacy during this difficult time as we come to

terms with our loss.


The family will not be issuing further statements or conducting interviews at this time.
