Special Forces soldier injured in a vehicle accident
An Australian soldier with the Special Operations Task Group is recuperating at the Role 3
Medical Facility in Kandahar, after his vehicle rolled over during operations in Northern
Kandahar Province, Afghanistan on the 14th of October.
The soldier received immediate first aid from his mates, before being aero medically
evacuated to Kandahar, where he underwent treatment.
Defence can confirm the vehicle accident was not the result of enemy action and no other
local nationals, Afghan or Australian soldiers were injured in the accident.
Commander of Joint Task Force 633, Major General John Cantwell, said as soon as the
accident occurred, the injured soldier’s mates were at his side rendering assistance.
“The injured soldier received the best possible first aid in the field and continued to be treated
by first rate medical practitioners at Kandahar,” Major General Cantwell said.
Due to medical-in-confidence and the soldiers protected identity, further details about the
soldier and his injuries cannot be disclosed.
The soldier is expected to make full recovery and return to duty in the near future.
This information was not released on 14 October to protect the security of an on-going
operation.
