Soldiers wounded in Afghanistan 12 February 2010 - Update

Two further Australian soldiers have been identified as suffering minor wounds from

an Improvised Explosive Device incident on 12 February 2010. This now brings the

total of wounded soldiers from the two separate incidents on 12 February to four.

The additional two soldiers received minor head injuries as a result of the blast against

the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force – Two (MRTF-2) patrol. They were

aero-medically evacuated to Tarin Kowt for further treatment once post-patrol

medical check ups identified their injuries.

These two soldiers’ families have been notified.

Medical assessments of the two soldiers do not class the wounds as serious, and both

are expected to return to full duties.

The soldier who was seriously wounded in the same incident (previously reported on

Saturday 13 February) will return to Australia for further medical treatment. The

nature of his wounds remains medical-in-confidence.

There have now been six Australian service personnel wounded in operations in

Afghanistan in 2010.
