RELEASE OF THE DEFENCE ICT STRATEGY
The Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner, today released the 2009 Defence
ICT Strategy.
Senator Faulkner said that the Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Strategy contains several key initiatives that will increase efficiency and effectiveness
within Defences ICT portfolio.
The Defence ICT Strategy will strengthen the relationship between Defences
strategic objectives and enabling ICT capabilities, Senator Faulkner said.
Through enhanced strategic planning processes and transparent portfolio-based
resource allocation, the ICT Strategy will improve Defences ability to conduct
forward ICT capability planning.
The Defence ICT Strategy is also consistent with the recommendations of the
Gershon Review and elements of the Strategy were included in the 2009 Defence
White paper.
Senator Faulkner said that the Government is seeking to improve the content,
quality, presentation and utility of information made available publicly relating to the
future direction of Defence ICT.
Defence will also conduct annual reviews of its ICT Strategy to maintain the
relationship between strategic objectives and the provision of enabling ICT
capabilities.
Defences Chief Information Officer, Mr Greg Farr will officially launch the ICT
Strategy on the 10th November at the MilCIS Conference, National Convention
Centre in Canberra.
MilCIS is an annual conference presented in partnership by the Defence Chief
Information Officer Group with the University of New South Wales and the Australian
Defence Force Academy and is aimed at attendees from military and government
organisations, academia, and defence industry, who contribute to key decisions in
investments in communications and information systems.
