Release of Defence Incoming Government Brief
The Department of Defence has recently received two Freedom of Information applications for
the release of its Incoming Government Brief.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, the Department’s designated decision maker
yesterday provided the applicants with a redacted copy of the Incoming Government Brief.
I have indicated to the Department that as a consequence it is appropriate for the redacted Brief
be made available on the Department’s website.
The redacted Brief contains a significant amount of useful and relevant information.
Much of this information has previously been made public, including through Senate Estimates,
and in preparatory material released for the Afghanistan debate in Parliament.
