RECEPTION CEREMONY FOR THE LATE FLYING OFFICER

MICHAEL HERBERT AND PILOT OFFICER ROBERT CARVER


What:

A reception ceremony for the late Flying Officer Michael Herbert and

Pilot Officer Robert Carver, who are being brought home from

Vietnam.


Who:

Minister for Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science, the Hon Greg

Combet MP; Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, the Hon Dr

Mike Kelly MP; Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin; family

members of Flying Officer Michael Herbert and Pilot Officer Robert

Carver, members of the Vietnam Veteran community, and other

members of the Royal Australian Air Force will attend the ceremony.


When:

10:30am Monday 31 August 2009.


Where:

RAAF Base Richmond, Percival Street, Richmond NSW.


Background:

An Air Force-led team has recovered the remains of FLGOFF Herbert and PLTOFF

Carver, who were lost with their Canberra bomber on 3 November 1970, while

returning to base following a bombing mission.


Flying Officer Herbert and Pilot Officer Carver from No. 2 Squadron were Australia’s

last missing ADF members from the Vietnam War. 


Media note:

Access to the base will be permitted from 8.30am, from the external Base car park

(off Percival Street).


Photo identification, such as a driver’s licence is required to enter a Defence base.
