NAVY RECRUITS SIGN UP IN CANBERRA


What:

In Canberra, six new sailors are to be welcomed into the Royal Australian

Navy this coming Monday, as part of around 100 joining up across

Australia.


Three of the new sailors joining up are from regional areas around

Canberra while two of the new recruits are third-generation Navy.


A Navy helicopter will provide a backdrop to the event, and an additional

28 potential Navy recruits will be on hand, along with family and friends,

to mark the occasion.


When:

Monday, 29 June 2009.

The enlistment will take place at 11:30am sharp.


Where:

HMAS Harman Junior Sailors Mess.


Background:

Navy recognises that strong recruitment and retention are the key elements to building

its long-term workforce structure.


While current figures are encouraging, Navy is constructively working across a range

of initiatives to further enhance conditions of service and employment to encourage

recruitment and ongoing participation by its officers and sailors.
