will announce recipients of the 2010 Defence Technical Scholarships at

Gisborne Secondary College tomorrow, Thursday 6 May 2010.  He will

personally present certificates and cheques to five local students.

The Scholarships began in 2009 with 569 students from across Australia

receiving a scholarship.  This year 760 students will receive scholarships.

Defence currently offers up to 1500 Defence Technical Scholarships to

selected Year 11 and 12 students, valued at either $2000 or $3000 each, to

support their technical studies.

Defence Technical Scholarships reward technically savvy students for staying

on at school and enrolling in specific subjects, including mathematics and a

technical Vocational and Educational Training subject.

Defence Technical Scholarships encourage students to not only consider an

Australian Defence Force technical trade career pathway, but to do so after

completing Year 12.  The Australian Defence Force has more than 30

technical trades available for school leavers.
