MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FACILITIES INVESTMENT
AT LAVARACK BARRACKS
The Minister for Defence, the Hon. Joel Fitzgibbon MP, visited Lavarack
Barracks today and broke ground to mark the commencement of
approximately $80 million in new facilities for the 3rd Combat Engineer
Regiment.
Lavarack Barracks is an important base for the Armys 3rd Brigade and
several other Defence units, Mr Fitzgibbon said.
More than $207 million will be invested in the Lavarack Barracks
Redevelopment Stage 4 Project.
The focus of this project is to provide facilities for B Squadron 3rd/4th
Cavalry, 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment and the 4th Field Regiment.
In addition, the project includes an upgrade to the base gymnasium and
sporting fields and provision of new regimental aid posts.
The Lavarack Barracks Redevelopment Stage 4 Project will reuse and
refurbishment existing facilities and infrastructure.
New buildings to support the Armys 3rd Brigade will also be constructed.
This Government is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in modern
facilities around Australia. This includes facilities for the Air Forces heavy
airlift aircraft, training accommodation for helicopter pilots, and
accommodation for the Australian Defence Forces single personnel who live
on base.
Construction of the new facilities will be completed over the next two years
and are planned for progressive completion through to mid-2010.
