MINISTER FOR DEFENCE AND US AMBASSADOR SIGN

AUSTRALIA-UNITED STATES DEFENCE AGREEMENT

The Minister for Defence, The Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, and the US

Ambassador Robert McCallum will exchange documents in support

of the Chapeau Agreement.

and Personnel, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP.


The Chapeau Agreement between Australia and the United States is a legally

binding agreement covering personnel exchange programs under

international law.


It is formally known as the Agreement between the Government of Australia

and the Government of the United States concerning Certain Mutual Defense

Commitments.
