MEDICAL CARE FOR INJURED AFGHAN

An injured Afghan youth and his father have been transported to a military hospital in

Tarin Kowt for specialist medical treatment to the young man’s upper leg.

The 16-year-old from the Baluchi area alleged that his injury was the result of

Australian military operations in the region. The injury is not reported as life

threatening.

Reconstruction Task Force (RTF) members have been conducting patrols and

clearance operations in the region. However, Taliban extremists also regularly use

populated areas to engage International Security Assistance Force troops in small

arms fire and rocket attacks.

The facts of the matter are now the subject of an investigation involving members of

the RTF, Military Police and the Australian Defence Force Investigation Service.
