MARITIME SECURITY AND DISASTER RESPONSE EXERCISE

COMMENCES

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has today commenced Lumbas 08, a bilateral

maritime training activity with the Philippine Navy (PN), in the Cebu Strait.

Armidale Class Patrol Boat HMAS Armidale has joined PN assets BRP Bienvenido

Salting, BRP Abraham Campo and PN Islander 320 aircraft for the activity.

Lumbas 08 aims to develop interoperability in coordinated patrol and surveillance

operations, disaster response and humanitarian assistance.

Commanding Officer of Armidale, Lieutenant Commander Robert Davies said,

Lumbas is an important activity in the Royal Australian Navy’s calendar.  Lumbas 08

is the sixth combined training activity held between the RAN and the Philippines and

plays an important role in promoting a shared understanding of maritime procedures.”
