MALAYSIAN VISIT FOR EMPLOYERS OF RESERVISTS
Fifteen employers of Defence Reservists will travel to Malaysia today (15
December 2009) as part of Exercise Boss Lift to learn more about the benefits
of Reserve service.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, the Hon Dr Mike Kelly AM
MP, said that the employers would visit soldiers from NSW-based 5th Brigade,
who are currently on a three-month deployment.
The Reserve soldiers are currently members of Rifle Company Butterworth, a
regular rotation of Australian military personnel, that supports the Australian
presence at Butterworth Air Base and exercises frequently with Defence
Force counterparts from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
The Cadet, Reserve and Employer Support Division (CRESD), which is
responsible for facilitating employer support for Australia's Defence
Reservists, has ensured the three-day Boss Lift program will highlight the
important role the Reserves play in the Australian Defence Force and will
allow employers to experience directly the essential roles played by their
employees.
Dr Kelly said he believed the employers would gain a valuable insight into the
benefits their Defence Reserve employees can bring back to the civilian
workplace.
Reserves are bringing increased levels of capability to Australias Defence
Force, said Dr Kelly.
We feel it is important for employers to understand that Reservists develop
skills during their military service that can directly benefit their businesses.
