LAUNCH OF NEW-GENERATION AIR OPERATIONS SIMULATION

CENTRE AND CENTRE OF EXPERTISE IN PHYSICAL

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

DSTO is celebrating the 70th birthday of its laboratory at Fishermans Bend during

National Science Week. As part of the activities, Minister Combet will launch an

upgraded $1.7M Air Operations Simulation Centre designed to support future military

aircraft.  


Photo op: The Simulation Centre provides a spectacular 100 x 200 degree field-of-

view, allowing cockpit crew to ‘fly through’ changing landscapes and scenarios. 


The Minister will also launch a Centre of Expertise in Physical Employment

Standards in partnership with the University of Wollongong to develop standards for

measuring a soldier’s suitability to perform specific tasks. 


Photo op: Soldiers in fighting load will conduct a number of drills to demonstrate

physical tests representative of military tasks.
