HMAS TOOWOOMBA DEPARTS FOR MIDDLE EAST

What:


Royal Australian Navy Anzac Class Frigate HMAS Toowoomba and

her ship’s company of 193 personnel will depart Fleet Base West on

Tuesday, 09 June, for a six-month deployment to the Middle East Area

of Operations (MEAO).  Toowoomba will take part in Operation

Slipper, Australia’s support to coalition maritime security operations in

the MEAO.


When:


9.40 am for an 11:00 am departure, Tuesday 09 June 2009.


Where:


Media to arrive at HMAS Stirling Fleet Base West, Perth. 

Photographic identification will be required.  

 

Who:


HMAS Toowoomba will be farewelled by the Member for Brand, the

Honourable Gary Gray, AO, MP and the Commander Australian Fleet,

Rear Admiral Nigel Coates AM RAN, along with family and friends of

the Ship’s Company. 

Media note:

The Commanding Officer of HMAS Toowoomba, Commander Ivan M.

Ingham, RAN will be available for interview. 

 

HMAS Toowoomba will deploy for six months to the MEAO, as part of Operation

Slipper, Australia’s support to coalition maritime security operations.


During her deployment, Toowoomba will help develop security in the maritime

environment, promoting regional stability and global prosperity.


The Anzac Class Frigate was previously deployed to the Middle East Area of

Operations from 4 January 2007 to 2 July 2007.  


During Toowoomba’s previous deployment to the Gulf, she conducted 62 boardings,

over 755 boat evolutions, 12 Replenishments at Sea and Vertical Replenishments, 212

flying hours by its embarked Navy Seahawk helicopter and 510 investigative queries

of merchant vessels.
