HMAS SYDNEY II – NATIONAL MEMORIAL SERVICE


WHAT:

A national memorial service will be held in Sydney to remember the 645

men of HMAS Sydney II, who lost their lives on 19 November 1941.


WHO:

Relatives of HMAS Sydney

IIs crew will attend the service.  Also

attending will be the Governor of NSW, Prime Minister of Australia,

Leader of the Opposition, Premier of NSW, Lord Mayor of Sydney, Chief

of Defence Force, Chief of Navy and the Acting Chief of Air Force.


WHERE:

St Andrew’s Cathedral, corner of Bathurst St and George St, Sydney.

A large screen outside the Cathedral will also broadcast the service.


WHEN:

11am on Thursday 24 April 2008.


FLY-PAST:

Three Royal Australian Air Force Hawk aircraft will conduct a fly-past

over St Andrew’s Cathedral at 12.25pm.  The Hawks will pass east to

west over the Cathedral before flying back to RAAF Williamtown along

the coast.

Due to the solemn nature of the service, the following filming and photography

arrangements have been made:


ABC TV will pool vision of the service for Sydney metropolitan networks. No other

television cameras will be granted access inside the Cathedral, however filming will

be permitted outside. 


One photographer each from Fairfax and News Limited have been invited to cover

the service. Navy will provide still images to other media via the Defence website at
